  • What We Do

Engaged Voters is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with a mission to develop informed voters into agents of change through organized post-election engagement with elected officials. The organization’s target is young, Black voters in Houston, Texas. Recognizing that young, Black voters have been historically underrepresented at the polls, our mission is to reach them where they are, making voting seem less out of reach and more relevant. We connect with voters at every stage of the voting process with an emphasis on voter education. Our vision is to expand our work across the city of Houston, into other cities in Texas, and nationwide.

    Civic Leadership Institute

The Engaged Voters Civic Leadership Institute (CLI) is a dynamic leadership and advocacy program designed to equip emerging leaders with the knowledge, skills, and real-world experience needed to drive change in their communities. Since launching in 2023, the Institute has evolved from a foundational civic education program into a hands-on leadership pipeline centered on policy, voter rights, advocacy, and civic engagement. Participants engage directly with government systems through advocacy days, voter protection trainings, candidate engagement opportunities, and immersive experiences at the local, state, and federal levels — including Washington, D.C. The program combines expert-led instruction from elected officials, policy professionals, legal experts, and grassroots organizers with experiential learning opportunities that challenge participants to not only understand civic systems, but actively shape them through advocacy, organizing, and community leadership. Hosted each Spring or Summer, the Civic Leadership Institute is an 8-10 week hybrid program that includes weekly sessions via Zoom and some in person activities. Applications typically open in February/May of each year. Graduation is typically hosted mid May/July of each year.
